Having a Ball

When it comes to adult activities, “kick” and “ball” don’t usually jibe in the same sentence. But hey, hey, hey: Recess is back, people. And it all goes down on Sundays at Tower Grove Park. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., co-ed teams challenge each other to pitch, kick and run like the wind. The St. Louis Kickball Association is forming leagues now for a season opener on April 11. No bell can save your opposing team from defeat!

Sauce pick: Kicking balls all Sunday long
Where to get it: Every Sunday starting April 11, Tower Grove Park, St. Louis

Gunns and Gundlach Bunschu Dinner

Although it sounds like something you’d say when somebody sneezes, the Gundlach Bundschu winery produces some remarkable wines. And although it sounds like a Broadway musical, Annie Gunn’s restaurant produces some amazing food. Put the two together and you have a truly special evening, especially since Jim Bundschu, the fifth-generation Bundschu credited with making the 152-year-old winery a major contender in the fine-wine world, rarely ventures outside Sonoma County nowadays. But next Thursday, Bundschu comes to St. Louis bearing beautiful wine, including a downright stunning 1998 Cab. The four-course plus cheese course menu designed by executive chef Lou Rook III is equally impressive, including crab-Andouille sausage cakes, pork belly, rack of lamb and braised veal cheek. This is an exceptional event, one that requires you to reserve a spot now.

Sauce pick: Gundlach Bundschu wine dinner at Annie Gunn's
Where to get it: Thu., March 18 – 6:30 p.m., Annie Gunn’s, 16806 Chesterfield Airport Road, Chesterfield
