Cook for a Cause

Contrary to popular belief, Feb. 29 is not Sadie Hawkins Day, the day where single women can ask for their beau’s hand in marriage. The day, which came from the comic strip Li’l Abner, was actually in November. Today is merely Leap Day.

We do, however, have a fun opportunity for the ladies this weekend that doesn’t involve marriage proposals.

The professional cooking school, L’Ecole Culinaire, has recently opened its doors to the public for a series of upscale cooking classes known as Kitchens with a Mission.

On Saturday, you can take one of the hands-on classes, this one called Girls Night Out. You’ll come away with techniques for making healthy and delicious food, along with the knowledge that you’re also helping out the Susan G. Komen Foundation. An added bonus is that the teacher, Jamie Manley, is billed as “Chef McDreamy.” Too bad it’s not Sadie Hawkins Day.

What: Kitchens with a Mission: Girls Night Out
When: Sat., March 1 – 6 p.m.
Where: L’Ecole Culinaire, 9811 South Outer Forty Drive, Ladue
Cost: $75 (10 percent of the proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation)
