Kickin' It With Will

You might think hip-hop and Shakespeare are two mutually exclusive cultural phenomena, but the Black Rep and the Chesterfield Arts are out to prove you wrong.

On Saturday, they’re going to kick it old, old, old, old school, when they combine Shakespeare and hip-hop into an updated version of Othello. We can’t think of a better vehicle for such a combination than Othello: Its themes of jealousy, betrayal and racism ring as true now as they did back in the 17th century, and this production's contemporary themes and music fit easily into the familiar storyline.

This particular version is aimed at families, so bring the kids along – they’ll barely notice that they’re actually attending a Shakespearean play.

What: Othello, presented by Chesterfield Arts and The Black Rep
Where: The Purser Center at Logan College, 1851 Schoettler Road, Chesterfield
When: Sat., March 22 – 7 p.m.
Cost: $10 for adults, $6 for kids age 12 and under
