Do Touch the Art!

We love a good afternoon at an art museum, but let’s be frank: Galleries don’t exactly have a reputation as a place where you can really let loose and get in touch with your inner child. Except for the post-modern wing, of course, where every painting looks like it was fashioned by a brush-wielding preschooler. No, art exhibits don’t really bring out the “let’s go play” mentality.

Except, that is, for a continuing exhibit at COCA.

From now until April 20, you can check out artist Didi Dunphy’s exhibit, Playscape. It’s a combination of visual and performance art featuring oversized skateboards, dynamically painted seesaws and other playground-inspired installations. You’re actually encouraged to “play” with the art. Of course, there are some real artistic concepts behind the work, if you must always walk on the adult side of life. But we think it’s a great idea to return to childhood every so often, especially at an art exhibition.
