Swing Fever
I got music, I got rhythm. (Sing with us now!) I got my man, who could ask for anything more? Well, we could. As much as we like belting out jazz favorites at our desks, this year we’ve decided to stop scaring our co-workers and do something a little different during Jazz Appreciation Month. Lucky for us, this resolution is as easy as heading to the Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival, which gets underway tomorrow at Jazz at the Bistro and then moves to the Touhill this weekend. In most cases, middle-school, high-school and college-level big bands and combos will perform during the day, with established favorites such as pianist Shelly Berg and trumpeter Wayne Bergeron on the bill at night. And speaking of the bill – this is one outing that won’t break the bank; daytime performances are all complimentary and the nighttime outings top out at only 25 bucks. What: Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival When: Wed. to Sat., April 16 to 19 – various times Where: Wed. and Thu.: Jazz at the Bistro, 3536 Washington Ave., St. Louis; Fri. and Sat.: Touhill Performing Arts Center, University of Missouri-St. Louis campus, St. Louis Cost: Daytime performances: free; Evening performances: $10 to $25 Info: www.gsljazzfest.com |
