Ladylike Behavior

There are two types of girls: those who dream of dating a rock star ... and those who wanna be the star.

Girls Rock!, which starts a week-long run tonight as part of the Webster Film Series, hopes to encourage more of the latter. The flick’s focus is on girls 8 to 18 as it documents their experiences at a camp in Portland, Ore., where kids from all walks of life learn to play instruments, compose songs and manage the tricky business coming together as a band.

While campers, guided by established females in the industry, move toward their final gig, the audience learns more about the challenges that face girls today and come to understand why rockin’ out can actually help overcome them.
