A Wordy Week

Once upon a time there was a disaster like none other: a TV writers strike – which meant no new shows! Months of reruns! Dinner time actually talking with our families!

And although the tragedy has since been righted, its memory has made us more excited than ever for this year’s St. Louis Storytelling Festival, during which we’ll immerse ourselves in an art form that wouldn’t dare desert us for a few more bucks. It all starts tomorrow morning with a workshop exploring American folktales, and then continues on with events for both adults and children until the anticipated culmination – a storytelling concert starring all of the festival's featured storytellers.

Thursday night is especially jam-packed, with both family storytelling and later tales for the adult set. But that doesn’t mean we won’t find time to sneak over to Bottleworks for another one of our favorite literary events: the Observable Reading series, which just so happens to be wrapping up for the season. Not only will poets Ken Rumble and Larry Sawyer take the mic, Matt Freeman (described as a “local legend” by the series’ founder Aaron Belz) is also on the bill.
