Let the Countdown Begin

It’s time to start counting down (in Spanish, of course!) to the fiesta of the year, Cinco de Mayo. And with the big day falling on a Monday, meaning that most of us will start celebrating this weekend, the wait isn’t long at all.

Now, please, don’t settle for that basket of chips and watered-down Margarita you can get any day of the year. Instead, head to Cherokee Street for the self-described largest and most authentic Cinco de Mayo party around, with savory cuisine tempting palates as ears are tempted by equally savory entertainment – an eight-piece Mexican band, to be exact, not to mention performances from Javier Mendoza and Boogie Chyld.

In Florissant, meanwhile, the Cinco de Mayo Village will be going strong on both Friday and Saturday. Ever wondered exactly what the Mexican Hat Dance was? Looking to learn to salsa? Music and dance are on tap alongside yummy treats like Argentinean empanadas and Bolivian shish kebabs. And as an added bonus, part of the money raised will help college-bound and underprivileged kids achieve their potential, which is one of the best reasons we know of to raise our Margaritas in a toast to freedom.
