Letting Loose
Poetry is what’s on draft tonight at Duff’s in the Central West End, where a group of local women are set to impress with some out-stanza-ing entertainment. The readers are all part of Loosely Identified, a unique group that gathers monthly to critique each other’s work. Separately these poets have a list of impressive publishing credits, not to mention a collection they published together. But perhaps their greatest achievement is the way they support each other, whether it’s taking time to comment on each other’s work outside of official meeting times, attending the readings of fellow members or promoting each other's poetic achievements. And when it comes to talent, they’re open to all comers: “Any woman poet is welcome to join us,” said member Colleen McKee, who add that she’ll probably be reading “something along the lines of my usual themes: sex, food and vengeance, not necessarily in that order.” This sounds like rhyme and reason enough for us to get out tonight for some ladylike listening. What: River Styx at Duff's Reading Series featuring Loosely Identified When: Mon., May 19 – 7:30 p.m. Where: Duff's Restaurant, 392 N.
