Flicks in Focus

So you might not have the best eyesight, but that doesn’t stop you. You get around with the help of a guide dog, you listen to books on tape and you’re probably reading this right now with the help of special magnification software.

But it does get a bit difficult when it comes to movies, and that’s where the St. Louis Public Library and St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired come in. Together, they sponsor a Descriptive Video Service Movies of the Month program, which enables the visually impaired to keep up with onscreen action through supplementary descriptive narration.

You can check it out for yourself at tomorrow’s screening of Insomnia at the library’s Machacek Branch. And if you like what you get, then enjoy other flicks on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Schlafly and Machacek branches, respectively.
