An Awkward Situation

Teenagers nowadays might have more body piercings and more power in their cell phones than what was used to land on the moon, but there’s one thing that hasn’t changed: the angst that accompanies those oh-so-awkward years.

That’s why three decades after the Grammy Award-winning Janis Ian released At Seventeen, the song is still making waves. In fact, you may remember it from 2004’s teen dramedy Mean Girls, which also honored the singer’s influence with a free-thinking character named Janis Ian. Of course, no one can compete with the original Ian, who will be performing from her extensive repertoire at the Sheldon Concert Hall tomorrow night.

For those who can’t make the show, however, no angst is necessary. Just plan on enjoying the concert in your living room next Friday, when a taped version will air on KETC Channel 9.
