Pocket Power

When St. Louis native Sharon K. McGhee went to see The Vagina Monologues, she appreciated the show, but couldn’t quite relate.

In response, she penned The PocketBook Monologues, which approaches similar topics from the perspective of black women. McGhee spent years talking to everyone from businesswomen to drug addicts about their stories, and then turned it all into a book and a stage production. Curious about what she learned? This Sunday you can catch the vignettes on stage, performed by local celebrities including jazz singer Denise Thimes, Majic 104.9 personality Tammie Holland and even McGhee herself.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and, trust us, you’ll never think of pocketbooks in quite the same way.
