Local Zombies
Los Angeles might be known for churning out movies, but that doesn’t mean it has the monopoly on creativity. In fact, some scary-good locally made cinema is showing tonight outside The Tap Room. And by scary, we’re talking zombies – so many zombies, in fact, that it required a double feature to hold them all. On the bill is Chip Gubera’s Song of the Dead (once called “weird and ridiculous in the best way possible” by Vox Magazine) along with Chris King’s Blind Cat Black. Now let’s talk about scary-cool: The soundtrack to Blind Cat Black was originally done as a “poetry score” when local musicians performed sections of Turkish writer Ece Ayhan’s poem in their own styles. The otherwise silent film was then shot to correspond to this completed recording. What: Zombie Double Feature – Blind Cat Black and Song of the Dead When: Tue., July 1 – around 9 p.m. Where: The Schalfly Tap Room’s south parking lot, 2100 Locust St., St. Louis Cost: Free Info: 314.289.4150 and www.cinemastlouis.org/filmseries.html |
