Grant Me Some Lee-Way
Robert E. Lee. Ulysses S. Grant. These two men were adversaries during The Civil War, but they recently came together at The Missouri History Museum in an exhibit that offers a side-by-side comparison of their lives. Although the display certainly focuses on the war, it also extends both before and after this seminal time – including their childhoods, West Point experiences and how they worked to reunite the country after the conflict ended. Everything from uniforms to photographs to historical documents helps instill a greater understanding of the two. Lee and Grant was originally organized by the Virginia Historical Society, but since both men spent significant time in the area, the museum has also added a local slant. Did you realize Grant met his wife while at Jefferson Barracks? Or that Lee worked to help tame our stretch of the Mississippi River? Who knows what else you’ll discover.
