Fore Your Consideration

If you’ve noticed chained-link baskets sprouting up in local parks, then it’s time to start practicing your putts – and to invest in some lightweight discs, similar to Frisbees.

The game is called disc golf, and it’s basically golf as you know it with less equipment to lug around and less cash to shell out (most courses are free). The rules, too, are pretty much the same, with discs being thrown from where they land and the natural terrain serving as an additional challenge for competitors vying for the lowest score.

Even though the sport’s been around since the ’70s, it’s kept a relatively low profile. But that doesn’t mean enthusiasts don’t take it seriously, from training to tournaments … which, come to think of it, sounds a lot like the original, too.
