The Art of Eating
Over the past few years, we’ve indulged in the local food and wine of Beaujolais, hung out with Cheddar cheese makers at Vermont’s Cabot Creamery and trudged through Italy’s Mount Vulture to sip some exquisite red wine. We’ve also supped at hidden restaurants in Florence, New York and Paris. We did all this before we even booked a flight. See, we’ve been reading Edward Behr’s quarterly journal, The Art of Eating, for years, getting lost in his travels, making his recipes and reading the reviewed books. To be sure, this is no ordinary food magazine full of perfectly posed dishes and glossy covers; the black-and-white photos are intimate glimpses into various food worlds. Behr researches food and wine like a scholar and writes about it like a journalist. No less enjoyable are the articles by other writers that round out each issue. Pick up just one issue and you too will know why The Art of Eating is as addictive as that cloth-bound Cheddar we read about. Sauce pick: The Art of Eating Price: $12.50 per issue; $48 per year Where to get it: Whole Foods and many local bookstores Info: www.artofeating.com |
