Drink This Shiraz With Two Hands
A friend recently gave us a bottle Two Hands 2006 Shiraz Angel’s Share with the stipulation that we put it down for a few years. That suggestion lasted exactly two months. The more we read the accolades and the many 93-plus scores, the louder that bottle yelled from its comfortable resting place inside our wine fridge. Just twisting off the cap (yes, a twist-off; get over it), revealed an epiphany: This ain’t no regular Aussie Shiraz. Burying our nose deep into the glass, we inhaled the intense perfume of blueberries, vanilla, and cedar. We swirled the voluptuously inky purple liquid, already assured of the wine’s status. From the tip of our tongue to the back of our throat, our first sip revealed remarkable depth and a juicy, lingering dry finish that wouldn’t stop until the bottle was drained. We almost thought about, as one reviewer mused, “gouging my eyes out so this breathtaking wine is the last thing I ever see,” but thought it a bit much. Yes it’s young, and another 6 to 8 years on its back won’t hurt, but in it’s short life it’s already accomplished great harmony. Besides, who can ignore those voices.
