Early-American Gadgets

We’re feeling both historical and hungry this President’s Day. But instead of sacking out in front of the History Channel with a bag of chips, we’re heading over to American Visions Contemporary Crafts in Rock Hill to check out some hand-crafted, early-American-style kitchen tools. One of our favorites is the Pequea Valley Forge Cheese Slicer, a hand-forged slicer created by Al Stevens, an Alabama-based artisan who was born and raised in St. Louis. American Visions also sells Stevens’ hand-forged, rustic-style herb chopper and, during the holidays, an heirloom-quality cast iron skillet. American Visions also sells hand-cast spoons, measuring cups, serving utensils and dishes from other artisan companies, along with pewter and cast aluminum serving pieces from sculptor Don Drumm. After we shop, we just might make a meal fit for a president – or at the very least, President’s Day.
