Drink Wine Day?
Funny, we thought that was every day. That explains why we missed that Monday was Drink Wine Day. So as we pop open a bottle of red, we ponder the latest wine-world debate that author George Taber tackles: cork, plastic or screwcap. Thirty years ago, Taber wrote a four-paragraph article for Time magazine about a blind tasting in Paris that pitted California against French wines, an event that was supposed to honor the bicentennial of the American Revolution. The real revolution was that California wines won. (Taber expanded the article in 2005 for the book Judgment of Paris.) To Cork or Not To Cork: Tradition, Romance, Science and the Battle for the Wine Bottle (Scribner) is no less fascinating. Personally, we prefer anything but plastic.
