The Cook and the Gardener

Right about now, we start thinking that spring will never get here. Maybe it’s because we can’t remember the last time we tasted fresh spring vegetables or early summer produce. That’s when we know it’s time to visit Wells & Co., the St. Louis area’s only cooking store-slash-gardening shop-slash-plant nursery.

Owners John and Mary Beth Wells (she’s the cook and he’s the gardener) will start offering all-natural vegetable gardening classes in March in the store’s thriving demonstration garden. After you’ve learned the secrets to growing tasty, heirloom tomatoes, you can amble over to the cookware section, where you’ll find high-quality cookware and gadgets from Le Creuset, Berndes, All Clad, ScanPan and other respected brands. After all, there aren’t many places where you can plan the perfect garden and menu at the same time.
