Kitchen Loofah

Loofah is living it up. The all-natural exfoliate is migrating from the shower to the kitchen, thanks to Loofah-Art, a company that’s turning the stuff into cute, colorful scrub pads. The pads, which are available through Straub’s markets and numerous online “eco” retailers, can be used on everything from fruits and vegetables to pots, pans and dishes. According to Loofah-Art, they’re even safe use on nonstick cookware.

Loofah-Art gets its loofah from Paraguay, where it’s grown and harvested by local farmers. After it’s “hand-seeded, washed and left in the sun to dry naturally,” the loofah fibers are “hand-fabricated” into fun shapes and characters, like fruits, vegetables, animals, cocktail drinks and seasonal symbols. And unlike most manufactured scrub pads, loofah scrubbers are 100 percent biodegradable.
