Cooking With the Blues
What’s Manny Legace’s favorite meal before a big game? Chicken Parmesan, tortellini and salad. He also likes Rachel Ray and offers this cooking tip: “Don’t eat my wife’s cooking.” Barret Jackman prefers a leaner pregame meal of grilled chicken, rice and salad. He also likes making a rack of lamb and shares his recipe. Keith Tkachuk gives away his family’s recipe for lobster pie (he has his cooked lobster tail meat shipped from Massachusetts). Even mascot Louie chimes in with Chicken Cordon Louie. In fact, the whole team, including executives and broadcasters, provided recipes for the new fundraising cookbook, Game On: In the Kitchen with the St. Louis Blues. The glossy, spiral-bound book has 45 recipes, including several recipes from Blues kids. Players’ wives put the book together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the St. Louis Blues 14 Charitable Fund and Gilda’s Club, a cancer support group named in memory of Gilda Radner. The recipes are easy and appropriately organized by first, second and third periods (appetizers, soups/salads, entrees) and overtime (desserts). The shootout sections offers extras like photos of players as kids. By the way, owner Michael McCarthy makes a mean spinach salad while head coach Andy Murray gets crazy with steak satay with peanut sauce.
