Cue for a Cause
In last month’s Top 100 Favorite Foods, Restaurants, Drinks, People and Things, Saveur magazine listed attending a competition barbeque as the No. 1 thing to do. And this weekend, you can scratch it off the list by attending the 2008 Kick-Off Cook-Off Classic barbecue competition sponsored by the North County Optimist Club to benefit the Childhood Cancer Campaign. This is a big deal, because winners qualify for the even bigger American Royal Invitational BBQ championship in Kansas City as well as the Jack Daniel’s World Invitational Barbeque Championship. Expect to see some of the best teams in the Midwest show up with their fancy rigs. While competitors stress out, you can mosey around sampling ‘cue, and learn a lot from world championship pitmaster and 17th Street Bar & Grill owner Mike Mills as he talks about making rubs, prepping meat and all things barbecue. Good ‘cue for a good cause – now that’s smokin’. Sauce pick: 2008 Kick-Off Cook-Off Classic Price: Free to wander around. Visitors can purchase barbecue from a variety of vendors. Where to get it: Fri. and Sat., March 28 and 29, St. Louis Mills Shopping Center parking lot, 5555 St. Louis Mills Blvd., Hazelwood Info: www.bbqsaucereport.com/contest/ |
