We love bacon. But who knew it could be so versatile? Surprisingly, local foodies are finding new ways to pork up the flavors of everything from drinks to chocolate to ice cream. “My Pickled Pig martini is selling like hotcakes,” says Monarch’s master mixologist Ted Kilgore. “There’s something irresistible about bacon-infused vodka and pickle juice with a blue cheese stuffed olive.” Over at Serendipity, the Webster Groves ice creamery known for creative flavors, they can’t scoop enough of its latest flavor: Candied Bacon. Top it off with maple syrup fudge and you’ve got something to squeal about. Meanwhile, capitalizing on new research about the health benefits of eating a slice of bacon each day, Bissinger’s added applewood smoked bacon chocolate bars to its popular spa line of healthy chocolates. By now you’ve realized that today is April Fool’s Day. But with apologies to the businesses mentioned above (they really haven’t gone hog wild with bacon), the products are real.
