Tortilla Time
We know it’s easy to just grab a package of tortillas from the grocery store for tonight’s Cinco de Mayo meal. But c’mon, you’re a Daily Saucer! You can toss back the tequila, turn up the Mariachi music and whip up homemade tortillas! For flour tortillas, all you need are basic ingredients (flour, water, baking powder, shortening or oil, etc.) and a good rolling pin. But for fresh corn tortillas, we recommend a tortilla press. The presses – made of cast iron or cast aluminum – are fun, affordable and very easy to use. After you settle on a recipe, simply make your dough, roll it into individual balls, place them one by one in the press (along with a piece of parchment or wax paper to avoid sticking). Then press away until you have a stack of soft, tasty, homemade tortillas. Ole! Sauce pick: Homemade Tortillas Price: About $20 Where to get it: Most chain and independent cookware stores |
