Giving Us the Raspberry ... Earlier
If there’s one thing we love more than chocolate-covered strawberries it’s chocolate-covered raspberries. Typically, we had to wait until summer for our fix. But this year, for the first time in 27 years, Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Co. began making the fruity confections a month earlier. Every day since May 1, CCCC has been busily hand-picking the best big, juicy California raspberries and twice dunking them in small batches of the company’s award-winning milk chocolate. Freshness is key, which is why these berries are covered in chocolate the same day the produce arrives from the West Coast. And because these are California berries, they’re about twice the size of the anemic red fruit you find in the supermarket. The demand is huge, keeping the eight retail stores with candy kitchens busily humming along, often making second batches by mid-day to keep all 12 stores well-stocked. But although these delicacies came a month early, they – unlike CCCC’s chocolate covered strawberries, which are made year-round – won’t be around forever. Sauce pick: Early chocolate-covered raspberries Where to get it: Available only at Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Co.’s 12 area retail stores Price: $23.95 per pound Info: For store locations, visit www.chocolatechocolate.com |
