Show Off Your Sportsmanship

You’re such a good sport. You’re going to support the Lift for Life Gym by attending the 13th annual St. Louis Microfest on June 6 and 7. Insert 12-ounce curl joke here. But really, the North City gym is a safe place for kids to get exercise, work on their homework and get a nutritious meal – a home away from home.

To help, all you have to do is drink beer from more than 20 breweries. Look for Missouri microbrews from Augusta, Charleville, Power Plant, Tin Mill and many more. There’ll be some very welcome out-of-towners, as well: New Albanian from Indiana, Colorado’s New Belgium, and Kansas’ Tallgrass and 23rd Street, to name a few.

And look for food from Al-Tarboush Deli, St. Louis Gast Haus, Iron Barley, De Palm Tree and more. There promises to be pub fare from The Stable, the soon-to-open brew house, distillery and pizzeria at Cherokee Street and Lemp Avenue. Keep an eye out, too, for the craft soda tent with more than 20 varieties of root beers, birch beers and craft sodas.

There is one competitive component to the festival, though: a homebrew competition. Deadline for samples is May 30, with winners announced on June 7.

Sauce pick: St. Louis Microfest, June 6 – 5 to 9 p.m. ($20 advance), June 7 – noon to 6 p.m. ($25 advance)
Where to get it: Upper Muny parking lot at Forest Park
