Fast Relief From Slow Food
The Midwest floods have been devastating to farmers and food artisans. And it’s only going to get worse with lower crop yields and higher prices down the road. While we can’t help communities sandbag against rising rivers, we can donate money to the Terra Madre Relief Fund set up for the entire Slow Food Heartland community. Think of it as financial sandbagging to help people like Andrew, whose entire crop of heirloom lettuces took a beating from hail a few weeks ago. In Iowa alone, nearly 3 million acres of newly planted farmland is now under water. Whatever amount you donate, know that it all goes to help farmers get back to the markets, just as it did when the fund provided assistance to farmers during hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
