A Run in the Park
Spiridon Louis ran a 7:11 minute mile. In 1896, this turned the Greek postal worker into an Olympic champion. Go St. Louis doesn't care how fast you run – or if you ever even enter a race. The local fitness promoter just hopes you'll show up for some (or all) of its seven group training sessions in Forest Park. They're informal. They're free. They're hare- and tortoise-friendly (even if a hare or tortoise prefers to walk). Plus various retailers will be showing up to give you the scoop on shoes (sorry, running barefoot isn't really an option in the winter). Health-related tips will be handed out courtesy of the St. Louis Injury and Rehabilitation Center. Just do this group training thing. Back in old Athens, Spiridon Louis would've just done it too.
