Catching the Drift

Drift on over to the Contemporary Art Museum tomorrow night to get up close and personal with a few of the area’s hottest young artists – Moses, Matthew Strauss and Jason Wallace Triefenbach.

All three were awarded the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Contemporary as part of the Great Rivers Biennial (a program designed to recognize up-and-coming local artists), and the Great Rivers Artist Drift is your chance to get the skinny on their cutting-edge work.

You’ll be awed by Moses’ sculptural installation, which is structured around a Chevy reconfigured into a giant sound system. This unique exhibit also includes a piece entitled “Soundboard,” which consists of 160 emptied graphic equalizers assembled into one huge composition. Jennifer Gaby, manager of public relations, marketing and events at the Contemporary, said Moses will be talking about how he developed that particular piece, “what he’s trying to do, and the process of gathering the materials and putting them together – all the way up to hanging it on the museum wall.”

Strauss – who created silk-screen prints on paintings of precise little structures made from fragments of toys, modeling kits and museum-shop souvenirs – will be there to promote his book entitled “POETASTER.” Meanwhile, Jason Wallace Triefenbach will entertain with a live show that includes a combination of song, tap shoes and (believe it or not) antlers.
