June 7th, 2007 edition of The Daily Sauce: Food and Wine. Visit Our Food and Wine Archive. Study Wine With the Pros Whether you swill cheap juice or savor fine vino, we know you love wine. And, being the curious foodie, you want to know more – which is why you should spend your summer taking part in the St. Louis Wine Clinic's Summer Varietal Workshop Series. Chris Hoel, the clinic's co-founder, says the course will provide "a solid understanding of why wine made from the same grape has such a different taste profile produced in different regions of the world." Hoel should know. He's an Advanced Sommelier and a Certified Specialist of Wine. Co-instructors Stanley Browne and Jennifer Johnson are also Certified Specialists as well as Certified Sommeliers. These classes are sure to be informative and fun, especially given Hoel's vivid imagination and colorful descriptions. ("Froot Loops and a snow cone on a hot summer day as the wine melts over your palate and down your throat before you can get all your licks in" is how he described a wine in one magazine interview.) The six-week series began Monday with Cabernet Sauvignon, but there are five others to tempt your palate.
