Let Them Eat Cake Today We spend over $40 billion dollars a year on ways to lose weight, only to have those hopes annihilated by a bacon cheeseburger, strawberry shake and German chocolate cake. Then the guilt sets in, triggering a vicious cycle of self-loathing. Today, we can forget all that nonsense because it’s International No Diet Day. Started in 1992 by the British anti-diet activist and author Mary Evans Young, No Diet Day is symbolized by a pale blue ribbon and raises awareness that our obsession with achieving a media-defined image of beauty and thinness is unhealthy and needless. Proponents suggest doing things like eating something you’d never eat in a million years or you’ve been denying yourself, giving away clothes you’ve been waiting to be thin enough to wear, or notice how much young children enjoy their food, guilt-free. Try not comparing your body to anyone else’s, or paying someone a compliment based on something other than weight-related qualities. We’re going to celebrate by making that bacon cheeseburger a double ... with fries. Sauce pick: International No Diet Day |
