Faunus Frascati It's the weekend, and whether you're planning to spend Saturday morning antiquing, mowing the lawn or herding the kids around the zoo, get motivated for a busy morning by planning a lazy afternoon on the front porch or patio! When the work's done, settle in and enjoy your reward: a chilled bottle of Poggio Le Volpi Faunus Frascati Superiore. This might be the best summertime drinking wine I've had the pleasure of recommending. It's a fresh blend of Malvasia Bianca del Lazio, Malvasia Bianca di Candia and Bombino grapes. This straw-colored wine is crisp and delicious with refreshing citrus and melon tones smoothed out with mineral hints compliments of the volcanic hills south of Rome. At a sweet $10, it's a great buy, which makes it perfect for entertaining. Toss some shrimp or salmon on the grill, or skip cooking altogether and just pick up a hunk of good bread, some soft cheeses, crisp apples and tangy dried apricots. Or, if the weather heads south, head inside and pair the wine with a creamy pasta; the sunny burst of this fruity Frascati is enough to lighten the stormiest St. Louis summer Saturday. Sauce Pick: 2003 Faunus Frascati Superiore Price: 750 mL bottle for $9.99 Where to get it: Parker's Table, 8137 Maryland, Clayton Info: 314.863.4090 |
