November 4th, 2009 edition of The Daily Sauce: Food and Wine. Visit Our Food and Wine Archive. It’s Pesto Festo! Look, if you want local farmers, art, music and all the cool stuff it takes for a great community to thrive, you need to attend events like the 2nd annual Pesto Festo on Saturday, a fundraising party for EarthDance, the local nonprofit group working to help grow local food, arts, relationships and music sustainably. This is the only effort dedicated to getting more St. Louis farmers into organic farming, with results you can see at the Maplewood and Ferguson farmers’ markets, where apprentice farmers sell their food and flowers. Heck, next year EarthDance will train 25 apprentices in organic farming. So come out and enjoy appetizers, desserts, live music, art, a silent auction and a cash bar. You’ll also witness a local farmer, artist, community activist and musician receive awards for their work in creating vibrant, sustainable communities. It’s just that simple.
